1987 Palmero Grey Mitsubishi Starion ESi saved

My buddy Jeff told me during the summer of 2023 that there was a Mitsubishi Starion or Chrysler Conquest in a driveway up in his Pentucket neighborhood. I did a drive-by and sure enough, a Mitsubishi Starion ESi was sitting on top of the driveway. It had all of the signs of sitting for a long time.  I left a voice mail message with the home owner associated with the address. I got a call several weeks later and made a plan to swing by. The Starion was 100% complete with the exception of a missing front air dam. There was no license plate and the last state inspection was almost twenty years earlier. The family member who owned the car passed away then as well. I was shown a receipt for a certified warranty engine replacement before the owners death from a Manchester, NH facility. 113K miles. All original except the Aluminum Radiator and K&N air filter. New items installed in the last year: Battery, Brake Master Cylinder, Clutch Slave Cylinder, Water Pump, Thermostat, Power Steering and Alternator Belts. Windshield is cracked and tires are dry rotted. Some rust. Starts and runs but the rear brakes are locked up. This is a project otherwise this car is not for you. Why a Mitsubishi Starion?

 I have always loved the look of the Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R and Chrysler Conquest TSI. The boxed flares and stock 16 inch wheels coupled with the sharp lines. I bought some brochures about five years ago to see what the options were for the 1987 year. I would see one or two out on the roads in the summer. Both were white, one that was owned by an employee at Patty's Auto Salvage in Saugus and the other was seen on the 93 Expressway on a Friday night heading to the North Shore. It looked mint. I would not see another one for 3 years.  As for them being on the market, they were few and far between. I was looking for a stock and unmodified example. I was always up to my neck with Volkswagen projects so I never did a full court press on acquiring one until 2021. I browsed some popular auction sites and saw the prices literally multiply by 3 to 4 from the prices three or four years ago.
